An individual who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from that region, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody before a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.
She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in July 2025.
The legal representative added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel said materials including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.
She said the defendant proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"The police had not gone out by that point," she added.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the events.
The legal representative said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member contacted the authorities a second time.
She stated the defendant then played the "treat game" in a area of five children.
